Majestic Mahabaleshwar-Places to Visit
Located in the Satara district in the Western Ghats, Mahabaleshwar is a major hill resort in India. Known for its ‘points’ and lush strawberry orchards, Mahabaleshwar is a romantic backdrop for many honeymooning couples. It also houses one of the few evergreen forests of India. Mahabaleshwar consists of three villages: Malcolm Peth, Old "Kshetra" Mahabaleshwar and part of the Shindola village.
Mahabaleshwar is also the source of river Krishna which flows through Maharashtra, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh. Following are the places of interest in Mahabaleshwar.
Arthur’s Seat
The point was named after Sir Arthur Mallet, who sat here and gazed at the Savitri River, where he lost his wife and children in a tragic ferry mishap. The point is a very scenic location to visit. Many tourist cabs have this point in their tourist plans.
Kate’s Point
Kate's point is located to the east of Mahabaleshwar and is famous for its view of two reservoirs, Balakwadi and Dhom. The point is around 1280 mts high. The point got its name from Sir James Malcolm's daughter Kate, who developed a liking for the place.
Needle Hole Point
Needle hole point is located near Kate's Point. One can see a natural rock formation with a hole in between, thus giving the name Needle-hole. The point is also famous for the view of Deccan traps, which look like an elephant's trunk.
Pratapgarh Fort
The Battle of Pratapgarh between Shivaji and Afzal Khan was fought below the rampants of this fort on November 10, 1659. This was the first major test of the fledgling kingdom's army, and set the stage of the establishment of the Maratha empire.
The fort can be divided into the lower fort and upper fort.
The upper fort was built upon the crest of the hill. It is roughly square, 180m long on each side. It has several permanent buildings, including a temple to the god Mahadev. It is located at the northwest of the fort, and is surrounded by sheer cliffs with drops of up to 250m.
The lower fort is around 320m long and 110m wide. It is located at the southeast of the fort, and is defended by towers and bastions ten to twelve metres high.

Mapro Garden
Mapro Gardens is a garden park in Panchgani, Maharashtra, India. It is host to the annual Strawberry Festival. Mahabaleshwar contributes to 85% of the total Strawberry produce in India and about 80% is consumed fresh. The Strawberry Festival encourages the strawberry cultivation in the belt.
Mahabaleshwar is also the source of river Krishna which flows through Maharashtra, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh. Following are the places of interest in Mahabaleshwar.
